Full Description

During excavations at Culver Street between 1981-2 and 1984-5 (ECC337), the remains of a Roman building (CAT Building 121) were briefly examined. The remains were nearly all removed by machine towards the end of the excavation. They were situated on the east side of the former via sagularis (MCC760) and north of a cultivation plot (MCC855). Parts of two foundations indicated two rooms. The earliest was of gravel while the later one was of mortar. A floor of opus signinum and one of sandy clay were observed. To the south were two slots which may have been parts of contemporary drains.<1>
