Full Description
Red hill: it has yielded several pedestals and pieces of briquetage.<1> Some of it has been removed to spread over the fields.<2>
Other refs: <3>-<6>
Part excavated by Wilkinson and Murphy in 1985 as part of the Hullbridge Survey project. The remains of the red hill were seen to comprise a scatter of briquetage fragments within the estuarine/marine clay below the salt marsh. Also present in the clay were clods of dull red earth indicating that the red hill was eroded, at least in part, during the deposition of the grey estuarine/marine clay. Briquetage forms included a pedestal and a fire bar.<7><8>
