Full Description

A tessellated pavement was uncovered by Mr Mason behind 44 North Hill in October 1923. It lay 5ft from the south wall of the property and 37ft from the back door of the house at a depth of 2ft 6in. The material was large red tesserae with a few yellowish ones, painted plaster was also found.<1>
In April 1936 Mr Rudsdale notes a red tessellated pavement only 15in below the surface in the garden of 44 North Hill.<2>
