Full Description
During excavations at Culver Street between 1981-2 and 1984-5 (ECC337) a roman building (CAT Building 98) was discovered situated to the east of the former via principalis (MCC760) and encroaching onto the north side of a narrow east-west street (MCC764). The relationship with another building (MCC818) is difficult to understand.
The remains of the building were represented by a collection of postholes and post-pits. The plan of the building mirrors that of a later building on the site (MCC912) and 'it may be that the two buildings were different phases of the same structure'. Internally, a central partition was represented by a line of five postholes, the eastern part of the building contained various stake holes and postholes and the west area had an oven or hearth.<1>
