Full Description

Redevelopment of a car park to build houses. A trench in the SW corner of the site penetrated the remains of a N-S street. The metalling found was consistent with the edge of the street or footway rather than the street proper. Feature at the W end was a pit or, less lilkely, a robber trench for a substantial N-S wall. At the E end the street had been destroyed by the bailey ditch of the castle or a large post Roman pit. <1>
