Full Description

A new sewerage system laid - the trench cut to a depth of >2.5m. To preserve the town wall the pipe was set in a trench bored under the wall - the latter untouched but deep cutting had to be made through the rampart. The rampart contained a small quantity of Antonine pottery. Foundation of a wall c.0.6m deep. Once in Roman Road the new trench followed the line of the trench of the old sewer and generally no layers were visible, with one exception. A small pit was observed outside 55 Castle Road - it contained Roman pottery sherds and septaria. <1>
