Full Description

Redevelopment; practically all the site was destroyed because of cellars. The southern half of the plot contained a complicated brick cellar containing sveral vaulted passages. Importants discoveries noted in a metre wide strip of surviving stratigraphy between the northern cellar and the High Street frontage consisted of a N-S Roman drain and 2 human skeletons. The latter were discovered and removed by workmen. In addition there were two wells (one possibly a soakaway) and a fragment of foundation of Roman date. <1>
