Full Description

Excavation by owner (Mr White) in rear garden uncovered Roman road with two phases of metalling. The earliest phase was well-preserved, the surface being 0.45m below ground level and its make-up 0.1m thick. Surface of later phase had beeen destroyed but 0.1m of its make-up had survived. Mr White believed there were indications of a ditch aligned east-west along the roads southern edge.<1><2><3>

Note that the grid ref. given in <1> is TL96622425, which lies to the east of Straight Road (and not near no. 149).
