Full Description
During excavations at Culver Square between 1981-2 and 1984-5, a Roman building (CAT Building 95) was discovered. The building was situated to the west of the former via principalis (MCC760) and south of an east-west street (MCC762).
The building was poorly preserved. The eastern end was found to contain six small roughly square rooms, most of which had mortar floors, whilst to the west, where it was less clear, two rooms seemed to have been of a different construction and may have represented a secondary development or even separate property. Traces of a southern range of rooms were seen in section.
The building incorporated wall slots and gravel filled pits which appear to have functioned as some kind of foundation.<1>
