Full Description

In October 1966 a telephone cable trench was dug down the west side of West Stockwell Street. The trench cut across three E to W masonry footings (MCC808-MCC810). They were 2 ft thick and dug into natural sand. The first was (missing) north of the High Street. These foundations are all presumably Roman but it should be remembered that this is in the area of the possibly Norman, stone houses.<1>
