Full Description

In the summer of 1965, during excavation on the site of Williams & Griffins' store for a new basement, a tessellated floor was found. Only a small corner was exposed, and the site had been too disturbed for it to be possible to decide what sort of structure it had been associated with. It lay on a make up of yellow sandy clay apparently lying on a rough gravel surface. There was no dating evidence for the floor.<1>
