Full Description

Small rectangular building W of the `Mithraeum' (see ). Only the mortar layer of the foundations remained, 29-30" wide. It measured 21.5ft long on the S, 17.5ft on the E amd W and 22ft on the N. Small porch attached to the W side, 12'10" long, 7'8" wide. "We have styled it a shrine for want of a better name, although as a shrine one would expect it to have the porch on the E side". 13ft from the SW angle was a rubbish pit c.7ft square containing dark earth with broken tile, flue tiles, oyster shells, bones and fragmenary pottery of the C2. The foundations of the shrine lay 3ft below the surface, on the subsoil. <1>
