Full Description
Discovery in 1793 of a mosaic pavement in the yard of "one Bragg, a baker, in Bear Lane". The tesserae reported to be on the whole thin. The pavement had a leaf border and measured c.22 x 17ft extending beneath a stone wall into the adjoining garden where it could not be excavated. <1> - <5> "There is an entry in the Museum register `April 8 1896 purchased of Thos. Foster of High Street a sketch of a Roman mosaic pavement found in the parish of St Martin's in 1794'. The sketch does not now seem to be extant". <1>
