Full Description

Many years ago evidence of a cemetery was found in this area. It was stated to have been identified as later then Roman, probably medieval. No details were available as to the date when the discovery was made but it could have been when the houses were built in Abbeygate Street or when the St John's Street car park was first established as a bus park before the war. <1> Saxon inhumation cemetery. <2>

Site Assessment = Site was expected to be redeveloped as a Tesco store with prior exploratory excavation (was this done?). <1>
