Full Description

Apparently excavated by PG Laver but no report available. The bastion was bonded into the wall, projecting 4m. The top is modern brickwork, and there is considerable modern faacing. <1> <2> The bastion and adjacent wall are in the grounds of East Hill House, formerly known as the Berry or Bury Field. PG Laver carried out some excavation on the line of the wall and the gardener told Hull that Laver excavated bastions 1 and 2, going right to the base of these, and also sunk a shaft midway between them, against the inner face of the wall, going to a great depth. Unfortunately Laver only left notes on Bastion * 7. <3>
