Full Description

During excavations at Culver Street between 1981-2 and 1984-5 (ECC337), the remains of at least one timber-framed building were examined although their dating and interpretation were problematic. The remains consisted of a collection of features which lay east of the via principalis (MCC760), south of another building (MCC786) and on the site of an earlier military building (MCC778).
The most distinctive features were two construction trenches which appeared to be secondary although they were essentially military in character. Other features which may have been contemporary include three slots, two possible hearths and part of a mortar-gravel surface.<1>
