Full Description

Gatehouse on site of Greyfriars Monastery, is c.1600 with a fine C17 plaster front. <1> "The gatehouse at Greyfriars is an excellent building of circa 1600 and later and contains a fine 17th century plaster front. It has been recently refaced but the original timber is still visible. In fair condition but requires attention." <2> C16 and C17 building with fine C17 plaster front. Built for William and Susan Boyes. William was a baymaker and mayor. Timber framed and plastered. Very picturesque front - upper storey projects with wall post dated 1680, initialled BW and S at the E end. Projecting bay windows. Plaster on front is rusticated. <3> Gatehouse is an excellent house c.1600, refronted, still pre-classically, as late as 1680. <4>
