Full Description
During excavations at Culver Street between 1981-2 and 1984-5 (ECC337), an early Roman drain was found situated along the southern side of the east-west street (MON536) on the north side of a building (MCC776). The drain consisted of a square-cut trench with traces of timber lining along one side. The other timbers were probably removed during demolition of the adjacent building (MCC776) suggesting the dain was directly associated with it. Part of the drain was set between the north-east corner of the building and a shallower drain which led from a building to the north (MCC775) and passed under the street metalling between the two buildings. Both drains appeared to have been in use concurrently.<1>
