Full Description

A Roman villa is reported in the area of the ruined church of All Saints. <1> <2> In his list of Roman villas in Essex (manuscript in Colchester Mus) H Laver included one in the parish of Stanway `in the field to the east of gate at Butchers Green. Greatly destroyed, seen by myself 1886, not published'. <3> <4> <5> Photo ref <6> Site scheduled May 2001 <7>.
