Full Description

Red pavement said to have been seen behind 2 houses just NW of the Nelsons Head Inn and partly in the NW corner of the inn yard. "An ancient well was found under the eastern of these two houses, oppposite the entrance to Garden Court. It was c.14ft deep and lined with stone with channels of Roman tile running into it from the east and west. It may or may not be Roman." Wall footings are also reported about 10ft S of the same house. <1>
