Full Description

Fragmentary remains of a moat. The house is possibly C15, much restored. <1> Incomplete, single rectangular enclosure; sketch plan on back of MSRG card. <2> <3> The house is of teo storeys, timber framed and plastered. It was built probably in the C15 but has been almost entirely altered. Inside is an original doorway. <4> The DOE gives a late C12 date for original construction - as an open hall with aisles of which two and a half bays remain with many additions. The roofs are all pegtiled and gabled except for the cross wing which has been converted to a hip roof. A cross wing was added to the west end circa 1512 which has evidence for an original attic floor with haunched tenons. Both hall and crosswings have crown post roofs. On the ground floor is one arched oak doorway of c.1314. <5> Crepinga in 1086 (Domesday Book). <6> Capital manor mentioned in Domesday; timber framed building dating from c.1180. <7>

Site Assessment: the owners would be happy to have the house examined
