Full Description

Field investigations in the large field to the west of the temple site. Remains of an oven were found, with walls of broken tiles including pieces of semi-circular tiles; there is little doubt that these were made on the spot for the structure of the temple and other buildings. Also investigated was a mound south of the temple, the site of a Roman building with walls 3.5ft thick. Only ghost trenches remain, although the surface is littered with facing blocks of Kentish Rag. The small amount of pottery found in association with this mound is Belgic and Roman, mid C1.<1>
