Full Description

J W Start was responsible for preparing the plans for a new school at Wivenhoe for the Dept. of Education. He had previously produced plans for the Parkeston School (1902), Elmstead Church School (1904) and Lawford National School (1911-14). Wivenhoe school was built by F. Dupont for a cost of c.£6000 and was opened on the 16th Sept. 1891 <1>

English Heritage decided that the building does not possess sufficient special architectural interest and is too altered to fulfill the listing criteria for buildings of this type and date. They do however note that the building possesses local interest and that its value as part of the Victorian Landscape is high. <2>
