Full Description

A small trial trench was excavated at the rear of the property. No archaeological features were exposed; however, three leather shoe soles thought to date from the 15th or 16th century were found preserved near the bottom of the trench. None of the shoes were within any discernible features and one was found in a layer containing modern material. Roman tile was found residually. It would appear that underlying Roman and medieval remains have been disturbed by 19th- and 20th- century activity. <1>
