Full Description

Brick klin discovered during watching brief in advance of development by Colchester Archaeological Trust. Rectangular brick built structure with fire boxes at either end; the floor on which the bricks stood may survive beneath modern make-up. Flues presumably transferred heat beneath the drying floors and although truncated would have been abox like structure. Standing on the floor of a former qaurry the kiln has been tentatively dated to the early C19. More investigative work is needed prior to its destruction. More sub-surface features are also expected. <1>.
