Full Description

On the S side of the junction of Northgate St. and Maidenburgh St. overlooking the Castle Park at a lower level, is half the base of an hexagonal pillbox. The park is some 4 feet below the level of the road and the base is at road level. Three sides project into the park and the longest of these is 8' 4" long. In the top of the base the marks of the pillbox walls, 15" thick, can be seen and the ends of the re-inforcement rods are also visible. Contemporary records state, "Pillbox at junction of Northgate Street and Maidenburgh Street, Castle Park. Map of. 446438" (Mil. Ed.).<1>
