Full Description
A watching brief (ECC1289) held during construction work (during the excavation of a large basement on the W side of the site) on the Royal London Insurance building at Middleborough revealed a probable Roman well which was one of three from the site with MCC469 and MCC471. The timber-lined well was very badly damaged with only the bottom stage surviving, set into the natural, water-bearing gravel stratum.<1>
