Full Description

Early C19 red brick house.

A historic building assessment was undertaken by Leigh Alston in 2008 in order to inform a planning application.<1> Alston records, 3 Church Street is an unusual and highly distinctive grade II-listed building of late-Georgian appearance with an imposing central pediment and three original entrances in its front elevation. The structure is not shown on a town plan of 1848, however, which identifies a smaller building on the same site as a Savings Bank. The present building appears on the Ordnance Survey of 1876, where it is also identified as a Savings Bank, having been designed as such in c.1850.
