Summary

A large ditch (34) over 2.6m wide x 1.3m deep that produced an iron nail and one sherd of Roman pottery, tentatively dating this boundary feature to the Roman period, recorded in the south part of Evaluation Trench 3 in2006. A shallow cut (50) on the south side of the ditch may represent a later re-cut.

Full Description

In the south part of Trial Trench 3, there was a large ditch (34) over 2.6m wide x 1.3m deep, aligned E to W. The ditch fill produced an iron nail and one sherd of Roman pottery that may tentatively date this boundary feature to the Roman period. A shallow cut (50) on the south side of the ditch may represent a later re-cut.<1>
