Full Description

There was one large group of material (3.16kg) coming from the ditch F124 in Trench T10. The majority of the pottery consisted of local coarse grey wares with soft fabrics, often with some grog temper, of late Iron Age/early Roman date, and there are only two sherds in well-fired Roman grey ware. There were also a number of imports with fine wares represented by terra rubra, terra nigra and South Gaulish samian, and other imported vessels represented by amphorae and possibly by mortaria. Overall the pottery is comparable to that from the Sheepen site at Colchester and most, if not all, can be dated to the late Iron Age/early Roman (pre-Flavian) period.<1><2><3>
