Full Description

Part of an inscription was found during terracing at the Colchester Grammar School in 1909, made from a thinnish slab of Purbeck marble dedicated to a Roman soldier <2> Lower part of a Purbeck marble tombstone, 14.5 x 9 x 1.5 with lower and right margins intact and with left margin still retaining part of a bevel. Now in Colchester Museum, reads 'Macri....us, Roman knight, lived 20 years: Valeria Frontina, his wife, and Florius Cogitatus and Florius Fidelis set this up' <3>
