Full Description

Excavation by B. P. Blake on behalf of the Colchester Excavation Committee ahead of the construction of an approach road to a new multi-storey car park. A trench was dug by machine, to prescribed limits of depth, in the garden of ‘Logarth’. Two rooms were found containing a tessellated pavement and mosaic floor, situated at the south east corner of Insula 2. The rooms were disturbed by 'all manner of digging ranging from modern and 17th century rubbish pits to shallow circular holes which may well have been Saxon hearths for some industrial working of which only the ash and slag remain. <1>
