Full Description

A poorly understood Roman cemetery was located north-east of the town walls and south of the River Colne. A number of cremation burials and a lead-lined wooden coffin have turned up from the area, largely as a result of quarrying at Everett's Brickyard which stood there in the early half of the 20th century.

Philip Crummy has written, 'The area immediately to the north and east of the walled town is practically devoid of recorded burials. Hull's North-East cemetery is an Area which appears to have been exceptional but may not have been so because it was only the existence of a quarry pit which led to the discovery of burials there. The walled part of the town may well have been ringed by groups of burials of which the so called 'North-East Cemetery' was just an example.'<1>

Burial groups recorded from Everett's Brickyard are no's 91, 203, 204, 309, 311, 405, 406, 511.<2>
