Full Description

At least one burial encountered under operating theatre.

Following excavations of the site for a new Operating Theatre (see ECC1861), ground works for the building were watched by Mr. John French on behalf of the Museum. Particular attention was paid to the areas which had been inaccessible for some time e.g. beneath the apple trees. Nothing of significance was observed but during these operations the builders came across fragmentary remains of Roman burials towards the centre and north east corner of the building (see ECC1865).<1>
