Full Description

Early reference to 'Have[d]strata' (later Head Street) in 1173.<1><2>

Main north-south road linking Head Gate with High Street, and aligned with North Hill. Based on Roman Street alignment which no doubt continued in use in some form after Roman period, as it linked Head Gate and North Gate.
