Full Description

A Roman tessellated pavement discovered during excavations in Castle Park between 1927/8. The pavement was laid on clay with no trace of mortar bedding. It measured 14ft. north-south by 16ft. east-west but was incomplete on the west side. It lay only 18in. from the surface and a brick floor was found 6in. beneath it. The walls which surrounded the pavement could not be found.<1>
