Full Description

A Roman tessellated pavement was discovered during excavations at the Castle Park between 1927/8. The pavement was 5ft wide east-west and 32ft. long north-south. The pavement was laid on a inch of red mortar on a bed of mixed clay and stones. The surrounding walls had been robbed so as to leave no trace.<1>
