Full Description

Human remains found on the site of Castle Park bowling green. Hull suggested the remains could have been 'Dark Age' in date but there was no firm dating evidence (and the absence of characteristic early Anglo-Saxon grave goods perhaps suggests otherwise; however, note that an fifth century AD grave group was discovered not far to the east in 1972; see MCC2130).
