Full Description

One of ten cremations recovered from Vint Crescent.
A large fine house, known as St Mary's Lodge occupied the land now taken up by Vint Crescent. On 24/2/1848 Alderman Vint reported, "I have been trenching the paddock near my house and…have several Roman urns discovered by my labourers; the last makes the tenth, I believe, most of them broken; the contents of nearly all were similar to those usually found here, burnt and partly burnt human bones…the sizes vary from 6 to 11" high. The first one was…enclosed in a cist…of Roman tiles of which two are quite perfect, 11 1/4" by 16 by 2 2/4 ". The others are much broken...There is also something like a foundation near where this urn was found."<1><2>
