Full Description

A rectangular mark was observed in the filling of Ditch II at Sheepen. This almost certainly represented a coffin, about 6ft by 2ft, having iron nails at the corners and at intervals along the sides. A cooking pot (form 279b) lay on its side, broken, at the east end of the coffin. The remains of the contents of the pot lay in the bottom and resembled soot. No trace remained of the skeleton.<1>
