Full Description

A small curving dyke with western ditch helping to enclose the Late Iron Age settlement at Sheepen. Its southern extent is not known. The width of the ditch (8m) makes it smaller than the northern and middle sections of Lexden Dyke raising the question of whether it really did continue much further south, to separate Gosbecks from Sheepen as C.F.C. Hawkes believed.

The dyke was excavated as part of the 'Prettygate Junction' excavations in 1959 by C.F.C. Hawkes and A.F. Hall. A trench across the dyke found the ditch beginning about 40m south-east of the end of Bluebottle Grove. The rampart of the dyke had been levelled. The ditch was found to be 8m wide and 2.5m deep. <1>
