Full Description

Two ditches in Trench 33 of the Northern Approach Road evaluation both produced a significant quantity of pottery (in total 575g) dating to the late pre Roman Iron Age or Early Roman period. A large lump of burnt flint, some oyster shell fragments and a small piece of Roman tile were also recovered. This material from a limited sample would suggest proximity to an area of settlement. More pottery was found in two further ditches in the south of the trench, of similar date as the previous features but smaller in size and quantity.<1><2>
