A range of finds were recovered from a Roman ditch in Trench 15, Northern Approach Road Evaluation, this comprised of 300g of pottery, fragments of roof tiles, burnt bone and daub, together with small pieces of charcoal. Despite a lack of other clearly contemporary features in this area the quality and range of finds recovered 'would indicate the presence of a nearby settlement focus of early Roman date which remains unlocated'. A 1st-2nd century date was suggested.<1>
