Full Description

A possible Roman shrine in Insula 15. The small rectangular building was discovered during excavations in the Castle Park in 1928/9. Only the mortar layer of the foundations survived measuring 21ft. 6in. long on the south side, 22ft. on the north side and 17ft. 4in. on the east and west. A small porch was attached on west side which was 12ft. 10in. long and 7ft. 8in. wide. The foundations were 2ft. 6in. wide. The building was interpreted as a shrine by the excavators although with some uncertainty.<1>
