Full Description

Rex Hull records, "In the spring of 1948 the foundations of a pair of semi-detached houses which stand immediately on the left as one enters the gate into Hospital Gardens (at the North end of Hospital Road) were found to need underpinning. Under the southern house there was a Roman foundation of large irregular blocks of septaria in mortar. It could not be exposed so as to measure it, but seemed to lie about 4ft down and to be about 5-6ft wide. Its direction was ENE, approximately and so about parallel to the conjectured line of the road to the Balkerne Gate. The SE corner of the house stands upon it."<1>
