Full Description

During excavations in 1964 which were intended to test the course of a known Roman road (ECC692), a Roman ditch was located along with other features including a brick platform, post holes, pits and a burnt earth floor (see MCC1790). The ditch was flat bottomed, aligned north-west / south-east. It appeared to have a gully draining into it from the north-east. The main filling of the ditch was clean sandy gravel containing a little burnt clay and charcoal with a provincial copy of a Claudian Minerva at the top (see MCC1791).<1><2>
