Full Description

The precinct of two Romano-Celtic temples (MCC1775 and MCC1783) situated on the south bank of the River Colne near to Sheepen.
During excavations undertaken in 1959 <1>, the temenos wall was traced with almost every trench producing either a room or other feature including recesses in the wall which 'were probably exedrae recesses for benches and possibly indicate a formal garden in the temenos'.<2> The temenos-wall, 2.5ft. thick, cut through a pair of kilns (MCC1815 and MCC1816) which were contemporary with an earlier timber building on the site (MCC1777).<3>
