Full Description

A watching brief was held during the digging of a foundation for an extension to the squash courts. The excavation revealed a section of walling and foundation. The foundation was 4.6m wide and constructed of gravel, with a section of masonry surviving in situ on the north side. The foundation was cut from a mixed layer of dumped material on the north side and was sealed by a layer of septaria cobbles, extending some 75cm beyond the masonry wall. To the south was a fairly natural soil profile. <1>
