Full Description

A watching brief was held during the excavation of foundation trenches for an extension to the Nat West Bank building, No's 12-13 High Street. A large medieval well was located on the west side of the site. This had an internal diameter of 1.55m with stone lining 30cm thick. The stonework was mostly Septaria faced on the inside and roughly curved (there was no peg tile in the well only re-used Roman tegula).<1>
