Full Description
A robbed-out Roman wall was observed during the excavation of a sewer trench on the Queen Street Bus Station site in 1958/9 (ECC1523). The robber trench indicated the line of the wall which ran roughly east-west and was about 1ft. 6in. thick. The sewer trench had cut through a doorway in the wall and the dressed stone, faced with mortar showed in the west section of the trench. The wall was situated immediately south of a 'floor' and to the north of a tessellated pavement (MCC1702).<1> This 'floor' may have been a covered footway between the wall, which formed the northern edge of a building (perhaps MCC1701) and the street to the north (MCC1467).
